Piers Morgan claims Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to join Arsenal

It has not been the best of weeks for Arsenal fans across the globe, especially the ones who are celebrities. Popular journalist Piers Morgan, who has been a long-term fan of Arsenal, was left disappointed with his team’s poor run of results that led to the side getting taken over by Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

After Arsenal lost 3-0 to Brighton at home, one of their most disappointing results of the season, Morgan went on to claim that Ronaldo wanted to join the club and had he done so, Arsenal would’ve been in a different position. Interestingly, the fans absolutely disagreed with the journalist and were responding with some savage messages. Morgan, who is fiercely loyal to Ronaldo, has posted on Twitter: “Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season – as he was keen to do btw – we would have won the League. He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters.”

Ronaldo had an ugly fall out with Manchester United with Erik Ten Hag remaining utterly unhappy with the Portuguese player. He was kept out of the starting XI multiple times and was also banned from touchline after he had walked out of the playing area before the game was done. It all led to the termination of his contract with United and after an explosive interview with Morgan himself.

He moved to Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr on a free transfer, a deal which will see him earn a massive salary of £173m a year. No footballer in the world is currently earning as much money as he does and he is off to a fine start to life in Asia, most recently scoring four goals in a match against Al Wehda. He also completed the milestone of 500 league goals in his career.

Before joining the Saudi side, it was also reported that Ronaldo tried his luck at sealing a return to Real Madrid. The former Manchester United and Juventus man scored 450 goals and provided 131 assists in 438 games during his time at the Bernabeu. Nevertheless, Perez had blocked the player’s potential return to the Bernabeu. However, he has now been offered a return to Los Merengues but not in a playing role.
