Formula 1 Esports

The Gfinity Arena in London has become a hub for the world’s fastest Formula 1 esports drivers.

They are now in the venue to participate in a qualifier race for the inaugural Formula 1 Esports Series World Final in Abu Dhabi.

Eight of the players are from the United Kingdom.

This year’s 2017 F1 Esport Series is the first of an annual competition. This will coincide with the release of the F1 2017 video game, which arrived on PS4, Xbox One and PC last August 25.

Players on all three platforms are welcome to the F1 esports series.

A total of 40 semi-finalists advanced to the London event after several qualifying rounds held recently.

Fifteen of the qualifiers progressed to the final, tackling a virtual race around Monza between September 4 and 11, while others advanced by racing at Suzuka Circuit between September 18 and 26.

Ten of the 30 competitors qualified online on PS4, 10 on Xbox One and 10 on PC.

Meanwhile, nine drivers made it to the semi-finals from the F1 2017 Affiliated leagues, held using all platforms from September 8 to 28.

The series was invitation-only. It is composed of the best league racers from AOR, FIT, Racestarsnl and Team Redline.

Based on ability, skill and esports knowledge, the 40th semi-finalist is a wildcard entry, selected by a vote from an independent panel, including former F1 driver David Coulthard.
The qualifying stages was participated in by a total of 63,827 drivers completing 976,870 laps.

The F1 esports semi-final will be shown live on the official F1 Twitch and Facebook accounts and streamed on f1esports.com. It will consist of four heats and will use the Silverstone and Interlagos circuits.

Under the format, the first five drivers of each heat will advance to the Finals, which will take place at the Yas Marina as part of the 2017 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on November 24 and 25.

After a three-race event, the first Formula 1 Esports World Champion will be crowned on the same weekend as the final 2017 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The winner will have the honour of becoming the Formula 1 Esports Champion Expert for 2018 and automatically qualify for the semi-finals of next year’s Esports Series.

Other prizes for the winner include attending one of the 2018 Grand Prix, as well as becoming a character in the F1 2018 game.
