Call it hard-earned, just got lucky or whatever.
For Paris Saint Germain, a win is still a win.
The capital side ruled the Coupe de France final last Saturday, nipping Angers 1-0, thanks to an own goal by defender Issa Cissokho.
PSG flubbed several chances to score in the first half, with Edinson Cavani missing opportunities to find the back of the net.
But luck, or maybe good break, came for PSG in the 91st minute when Cissokho heaed into his own net.
PSG thus captured the trophy for the third consecutive year, as it also put some relief on a rather disappointing campaign when they were toppled as Ligue 1 champions by Monaco, and getting ousted in the Champions League round of 16 by Barcelona.
It was also a soothing balm of sort for manager Unai Emery who has already won three tophies in his first season for the club.
PSG strutted onto Stade de France full of confidence after downing their opponents 2-0 two times in the Ligue 1, abut they found them tough this time.
The squad of Stephane Moulin appeared to be completely keeping PSG at bay but were simply unlucky to prevail.
Cissokho’s header after Angel di Maria’s corner went into the enemy goal, to the consternation of Angers and their fans.
Blaise Matuidi could have put PSG up in the first 12 minutes after a pass from Di Maria but his low shot was saved by Angers goalkeeper Alexandre Letellier.
Cavani then threatened with a header but it went straight to Letelleir, who denied the former a few minutes later.
Angers also made a threat in the 27th but Nicolas Pepe’s half-volley hit the post.
After the match, attention turned to Matuidi, who has been linked to a move to Manchester United.
But after helping PSG win the Coupe de France crown, he somewhat doused cold water on the rumour.
“I am feeling good in Paris,’’ said the playmaker who is also a France international.
Matuidi also added PSG are open to everything regarding his status and he has yet to wait for any decision.
Regardless of what the future brings, the 30-year-old Matuidi will always call PSG as the “club of my heart.’’
It will always be like that according to him, but at the moment, he and the rest of the squad are savouring the sweet taste of their latest success.
