Monaco moving heaven and earth to convince Mbappe to stay

Monaco's Kylian Mbappe-Lottin

Kylian Mbappe is in the eye of the storm.

Real Madrid want him but more than any other club, Monaco wanted him more.

So the tug of war is on!

The reigning French champions are said to be holding talks as of the moment with the 18-year-old sensation.

They want the in-demand striker to stay.

But Real Madrid have come into the picture.

Despite the fact the Mbappe is under contract with his present team Monaco until June 2019, the Spanish giants continue to lure him.

In fact, rumours went around that Real Madrid are dangling a massive £160-million offer to him. That is twice the salary Madrid paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009, Mbappe considers Ronaldo as his hero.

Manchester City have also been said to be bent on snaring Mbappe but could not afford the asking price worth 180 million euros (£160 million).

In lieu of the race to get the payer’s signature, Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev said they are currently in talks with Mbappe and are hoping he will extend his stay with the Ligue 1 club.

The 18-year-old Mbappe is so high on the list of Monaco because he contributed greatly to their title quest last season.

He scored 26 goals in all competitions for the club last term. For country, he has four caps so far with the French national team.

Monaco have also expressed disgust because earlier in July, “important European clubs’’ had made contact with Mbappe without asking their permission.

The club warned they might ask FIFA, the world governing body in football, and the French league to mete disciplinary action on the said “clubs.’’

Problem is, FIFA said they have yet to receive a complaint from Monaco.

It has been rumoured that Manchester City are the only English club suspected of talking to Kylian.

Vasilyev also announced that they have not reached an agreement with any club for Mbappe, even as reports swirled that Real Madrid are willing to make him the world’s most expensive footballer.

So the real score as of now is that negotiations between Monaco and Mbappe are still going on.

With due respect to the other clubs, there’s no need to hurry.

And to the media, putting pressure on all those involved in the continuing saga will only muddle the issue.

As for Mbappe, making the right decision will contribute in shaping him into a wiser, well-rounded player as he matures.
