Napoli strengthened their grip on the last Champions League spot as they dominated Lazio 3-0 at Stadio Olimpico in Serie A.
The visitors are still 10 points behind likely champions Juventus and four points below second-placed Roma, but they are now seven points ahead of their latest victims with just seven games left in the season.
Lazio, on the other hand, are just a point ahead of Atalanta and three points above Milan, and a shakeup of places in the last remaining rounds could see the capital side missing out on European football.
Napoli, who endured a grueling 1-1 draw with Juve in their last match, were still in great form and opened the rout 25 minutes after kickoff as Jose Callejon slotted home Marek Hamsik’s fine setup.
Insigne then started his big night six minutes after the restart when he got hold of Allan’s throughball and sent it to the bottom corner to make it 2-0 for the hosts.
The 25-year-old Italian completed his brace in injury time, with the diminutive attacker putting on a creamy finish on the fantastic assist from Piotr Ziellinski.
He has scored 13 goals this season, improving on his 12-goal tally last year with seven games to play.
Names like Gonzalo Higuain, Dries Mertens and even Insigne have been credited for Napoli’s success, but the one constant in those performances have been lightly given appreciation.
Hamsik, who has played for Napoli since the 2007-2008 season, has been in terrific form during the last three years.
He finished the 2015 season with seven goals and 10 assists and ended last season with six strikes and 11 setups.
This season, Hamsik has tied his second-best league goal tally with 11 goals with seven games to play and is tied with Callejon and Lazio’s Felipe Anderson for a league-best nine assists.
