New Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Lambert insists his side need to improve on the ball despite their 2-1 win over Preston North End last time out.
Lambert’s men moved up to 13th in the Championship thanks to a Jordan Pickford own goal and a strike from forward Jordan Rhodes.
The former Norwich coach has backed his side to challenge for promotion this season and they are now eight points behind the top six.
Although he was happy with some aspects of his team’s win over the Lilywhites, Lambert believes they need to be better on the ball in the future.
“I think there are a lot of things we can work on. For one I think we’ve got to take more care when we have the ball,” Lambert told the Lancashire Telegraph.
“But work-rate and application, can’t fault it. The pressing was excellent and will get better. But I think on the ball we have to be better than what we were at Preston.
“Have we the players to do that? Of course, there’s some real talent here, there’s no two ways about it.”
He added: “All the lads in training have been excellent for us.
“I’ve never sat back and thought, ‘he’s not really at it’. They might not sometimes have a level of high performance in training, but the work ethic is there. That’s the pleasing thing.”
