New Blackburn boss Paul Lambert has confirmed the appointments of Alan Irvine, Rob Kelly and Laurence Batty to his backroom staff at Ewood Park.
Former West Brom coach Irvine will be the Scot’s assistant manager and he knows the Lancashire outfit very well having played for the club between 1989 and 1992 before later becoming the Rovers reserve team boss.
New first team coach Kelly has also been involved with the Blue and Whites reserve team in the past and Lambert believes the duos inside knowledge of the club will benefit the squad’s chances of moving up the league table.
He said: “Everybody knows Alan and Rob from being here before, they have an affinity with the football club, they know what it is like and they know what the stadium is like.”
Goalkeeping coach Batty has not worked at Ewood Park before, but he has been part of Lambert’s coaching team in the past at both Wycombe and Norwich, and the form Aston Villa boss believes such continuity will help him to hit the ground running over the coming weeks.
He added: “Laurence Batty, I’ve brought in from when I worked with him at Wycombe and Norwich, he knows the way I work and I think I’ve got a really good backroom team that is strong.”
