Fury: ‘Parker overlooking me is worst thing he could do’

Undefeated heavyweight boxer Hughie Fury claims that the WBO champion Joseph Parker is making a mistake by “overlooking” him and planning future fights against other boxers.

Fury (20-0, 10KOs), cousin of the controversial former lineal heavyweight champion Tyson, will try to take the WBO crown from the also-unbeaten Parker (23-0, 18KOs) when the two lock horns at Manchester Arena this weekend.

“He was obviously overlooking me,” said Fury to ESPN when asked about rumors of Parker planning fights against other British boxers like the IBF, WBA, and IBO champion Anthony Joshua and WBC cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew.

“That’s the worst thing he could ever do and he will see that on September 23,” added Fury.

Parker is slightly favoured in Nextbet, with a win for the champion backed at 1.72, while an upset from Fury offered at 2.10.

Fury claims he is in great form after overcoming his skin condition, acne conglobata, which has bugged him during training in the past. The condition leaves the patient exhausted for a very long period, which has disrupted Fury’s training regimen before.

“That’s all behind me now,” Fury said to ESPN. “I’ve got a clean sheet, I feel a different person and a lot stronger. My body wasn’t allowing me to do a lot before.

“It would put me out for two weeks at a time before the fight which was three or four weeks away. I just had to stop because I was worse off for training. I had a skin condition which was poisoning my blood and over the years it has got worse and worse.”

“It was horrific,” described Fury of his disease. “I would try a shirt on and it would be covered in blood and every time I sparred my T-shirt would be soaked with blood.”

“I took medication for six months and it’s just gone now,” stated Fury. “I’ve been able to build up muscle and body weight. People don’t know what I can do because I’ve not been fully fit before like I am now.”

And still, he was very furious, pun intended, when he remembered Parker overlooked him by planning fights with other boxers.

“They’ll see what they are going to get by overlooking me. I hope he’s well prepared, that’s for sure. This is the best you will see from me. I’ve had the best camp in my life and I believe it will bring the best out of me. I’m the fittest I’ve ever felt.”
