Manchester United Facing Casemiro Absence in Weekend Clash

October 20, 2023 12:25 pm

Manchester United has been hit with a blow as Casemiro, the Brazilian midfielder, has been ruled out for their upcoming match against Sheffield United. This setback comes after Casemiro suffered a ‘small issue’ while on international duty with Brazil.

Casemiro’s troubles began when he was replaced during the second half in a game against Venezuela last week. Although he managed to participate in the following match against Uruguay, an ankle injury has forced him to sit out this weekend’s game. The club has recommended that the 31-year-old midfielder stay in Brazil for the time being. He is expected to return to Carrington early next week. Unfortunately, Casemiro won’t be available for the midweek showdown against FC Copenhagen in the Champions League due to his previous red card in European competition.

Despite the loss of Casemiro’s experience, manager Erik ten Hag will likely have Sofyan Amrabat back in action. Amrabat, who also faced an injury scare while on international duty with Morocco, has been spotted in training and is expected to anchor the midfield in Casemiro’s absence. He previously demonstrated his capabilities in this role during a match against Brentford when Casemiro was replaced at halftime.

In a positive development for United, Sergio Reguilon, the left-back, has been seen in training. Reguilon’s return is eagerly awaited, as he was sidelined for four games due to injury. The Spaniard made an impressive start to his career at Old Trafford on the left flank and will aim to replicate those performances as he rejoins the squad.

Ten Hag also has the option of including Kobbie Mainoo in the team to face Sheffield United, as the club has confirmed his participation in team training. Additionally, Raphael Varane, who picked up an injury before the international break, and Jonny Evans were seen in training, adding depth to the squad.

On the international front, Rasmus Hojlund scored for Denmark against San Marino but expressed frustration with opposition players targeting him, citing a late challenge to his lower back. Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford found the net for England in their 3-1 victory over Italy.

The 25-year-old has faced challenges this season, leading to suggestions that Alejandro Garnacho might replace him on the left wing in the upcoming match against Sheffield United. Get the latest updates from the Premier League only on Nextbet Sports
