Newcastle United’s Harvey Barnes Faces Injury Uncertainty After Early Exit

Harvey Barnes left the Newcastle fans anxious after his unexpected withdrawal during Sunday’s match against Sheffield United, which eventually saw the Magpies claim an astounding 8-0 victory. The incident occurred in the 11th minute when the score was still level at 0-0. Barnes, who was making only his second start for the Magpies since his £38 million summer transfer from Leicester City, went down and was promptly substituted for Anthony Gordon.

Head coach Eddie Howe expressed concern over Barnes’ condition, stating, “He doesn’t look too good. He’s got a toe problem. He pushed off and felt something in his toe. Early signs are there is an injury there, but we don’t know what it is at the moment.”

The winger’s injury puts his availability in doubt for upcoming crucial fixtures, including Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash against Manchester City and Saturday’s Premier League match at home against Burnley. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Barnes, Newcastle United achieved a historic away victory, securing their largest-ever margin of victory. Notably, the team set a Premier League record by having eight different scorers in a single match.

Reflecting on the impressive performance, Howe remarked, “It was very good. I don’t know whether it was the complete performance. We are always looking to look and find things to improve. It’s a really tough place to come, especially off the back of a European week for us, so delighted with the players.”

He continued, “First of all, we had to attack the game in the way that we normally would. We had to be ready for what they would throw at us, try and quieten the crowd, and we started really well and got the goal early. That settled us down, and we played some really good football after that.”

Howe also praised the team’s motivation and hunger for success, saying, “It shows you that the players were very motivated for the game. They were hungry for goals and for success. I do think we’ve got a really motivated group. I see really good character traits through the whole squad. It’s a long season for us. We’ve got a lot of challenges to come but certainly the last week has been a return to form for us.”

As Barnes’ injury situation unfolds, Newcastle United fans will be eagerly awaiting updates on his availability for the upcoming matches, hoping for a swift recovery for the talented winger. Get the latest updates from the Premier League only on Nextbet Sports
