Adnan Januzaj retains survival belief

Adnan Januzaj is convinced Sunderland can still avoid relegation from the Premier League this season despite their perilous position in the standings.

The Black Cats are currently bottom of the table, six points adrift of safety, following a run of just one win their last ten top-flight games.

History suggests David Moyes’ men can still pull off the great escape, as they have done so in each of the last four seasons and Belgium international Januzaj, who is currently on-loan at the Stadium of Light from Manchester United, is remaining upbeat.

“Sunderland have had worse starts in the league and still stayed up,” the 22-year-old said.

“This position doesn’t mean anything and (that’s) why we are all staying positive.”

The former Borussia Dortmund loanee believes Sunderland have been playing better than their recent results suggest and he is convinced they can start putting more points on the board, as their next three fixtures are all against sides in the bottom-half of the table.

“We have been doing well in many games, but if we concede it gets harder because you have to double your effort because the opposition try to keep the ball,” Januzaj added.

“We have to start to get some points. We have games now against teams towards the bottom, so hopefully we can help our position before the end of the season.”

Sunderland will certainly fancy their chances of securing a victory in their next match on Saturday, as they play host to a Burnley side who have not won on the road this season.

Moyes’ men are priced at 2.60 to secure all three points against the Clarets, who are available at 3.00, while the draw is on offer at 3.25.
