Barcelona set to complete a loan-to-buy deal to sign 19-year-old fullback

FC Barcelona is on the upward slope with the addition of the latest trophy in their cabinet, the Super Copa Espana, where they defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid in Riyadh. Now, the side is looking to strengthen their title chase, which currently hangs is in decent shape, but Real Madrid are within catching distance and one slip up can prove costly.

Xavi Hernandez is keen on adding more players to his roster and according to Joaquim Piera of SPORT, the Catalan Giants are set to complete the signing of 19-year-old right-back Wesley from Brazilian club Flamengo. The Spanish club are looking to complete a loan-to-buy deal, where they will be able to sign the player for one year on a loan and then have the option to make it permanent.

Barcelona have significant problems with their financial bucket and do not have the money to make any marquee acquisitions in January. They are looking to shore up on free agents and loan deals in order to back their manager’s title ascendancy. However, the season is only half-way done and the club are still not confirmed of glory.

The Blaugrana are looking to shore up their youth and reserve ranks, scouting the South American market, in particular, to add the most promising young talents. Following the addition of Lucas Roman to the club, Wesley could be the next to arrive on the Catalan shores, on a year-long loan deal with an option for permanent purchase.

The scouting report of Wesley states that the teenage right-back renewed his contract with Flamengo until 2025 recently and the Brazilian club are willing to let the player move out to Europe if the right deal can be found. However, he will not be playing straight away with the senior unit and will be linking up with Barcelona Atletic under the watchful eye of Rafa Marquez.

Barcelona are currently sitting on top of the La Liga table with 44 points in 17 matches. They lost just one match in the whole campaign, to Real Madrid in October. They have scored the second highest goal-scoring record and the best defensive record in the league, but their form has not reflected in Europe, where they got relegated to the Europa League.
