Can Chelsea recover from their shock loss at home to Crystal Palace?
That is the biggest question confronting the Blues right now and they will try to find the right answer when they host Manchester City in the Premier League on Thursday.
Surely, a back-to-back defeat at home would be frowned upon by their faithful.
It would be bad too for the reputation of manager Antonio Conte, under whose stewardship the Blues are right now on top of the table though precariously after that shock 2-1 loss to the struggling Eagles.
Coupled by a win of Tottenham at Burnley enabled Spurs to close within seven points of the Blues.
Conte will try to goad his men not to let the gap dwindle by egging them to defeat visiting City. After all, Conte has not lost consecutive home league defeats as a manager since 2009.
With their mind set on making amends, Chelsea will attempt to play solidly against City whom the Blues dumped 3-1 at Etihad Stadium in their last league meeting, a vengeance sought after Conte’s men were, previous to this meeting, shamed 3-0 by Pep Guardiola’s side at Stamford Bridge.
Their three other previous matches in the league had City winning once at home and the two others resulting in draws.
As for City, they want to be in the thick of the title race too as it gets nearer the homestretch. They are 11 points behind Chelsea and closing in is on top of their agenda.
Sergio Aguero will be the danger man for City as he simply just loves to play big against the Blues, scoring six goals against them this term including four at Stamford Bridge. Also, Chelsea should be wary of Diego Costa.
City are coming in after a 2-2 draw at Arsenal, seemingly a preview for their upcoming FA Cup semi-final.
Guardiola would really love to impede Chelsea’s run to the title. And he could be on track for that mission. City have only lost one of their last six matches in London and they could certainly make it hard for the Blues to reach eventual glory.
In any case, as City and the rest of the field would ache to deny the Blues the crown, Conte’s men will be striving real hard not to crumble late in the season.
