It seems like Mikel Arteta is yet to give up on his dream of signing Juventus midfielder Manuel Locatelli. Arsenal were keen on getting his signature for a while now, especially during his days with Sassualo, but once the youngster chose Juventus, the doors seemed to have closed.

However, it does not seem like the Old Lady will be able to hold on to their players as well as they used to. This summer, they oversaw the departure of Matthijs de Ligt to Bayern Munich, a player who was expected to be their next big center-back, joining a list of legends to have played for Juventus.

But that wasn’t to be the case, and the club failed to keep Paulo Dybala as well, who joined AS Roma. With the club not functioning as well as it did a few years ago, a lot of their players are keeping an open mind to move elsewhere in Europe, especially England.

Arsenal could be frontrunners if Locatelli is showing any interest in moving away. Mikel Arteta is currently struggling to make things work without Thomas Partey, who has been missing a lot of games lately due to injuries. This cannot continue for long as the Gunners are eying something big this season and their current league position could make the owners back the manager with a star signing in January.

Locatelli fits the billing as a progessive holding-midfielder, who isn’t just fantastic at sweeping up, but also can build attacks with his line breaking passes. He has the tendency to strike up an odd goal and has a solid right foot.

Calcio Mercato, the Italian publication, has suggested that Arsenal are monitoring Locatelli’s position in Juventus, who currently doesn’t seem to be a favorite of the manager. Their only option in the defensive midfield right now is Granit Xhaka and there is skepticism around his long-term consistency, despite him being a captaincy option.

Arsenal are off to a magnificent start in the Premier League, and are top of the table after seven league games. They also registered a 2-1 away win against Zurich in the Europa League, a trophy they will target desperately.
