Iran defeated Uzbekistan 2-0 at Azadi Stadium to seal their qualification for the 2018 World Cup.
Sardar Azmoun opened the scoring for Team Melli with the help of Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the 23rd minute.
Mehdi Tarami sealed the victory with a strike two minutes from time, scoring with the help of Azmoun.
The hosts have ensured a top two spot in Group A with just two games remaining following their sixth win in eight unbeaten games in the qualifiers.
They have 20 points, seven ahead of South Korea, who have a game in hand.
The Uzbeks still have a chance for an outright spot, as they are just a point below the Koreans in Group A.
In Group B, Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia are in a three-way tie for the lead, though the Samurai Blue have superior goal difference and have a match in hand.
The two leaders of the group will get direct tickets to next year’s World Cup, and the third placers of each group will get another chance in a wild card playoff.
