Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino feels it is natural that his name will be linked with the Barcelona job.
The Spanish champions will be on the hunt for a new manager this summer after Luis Enrique confirmed his decision to stand down when the season ends.
Pochettino is one of many names being linked with the Nou Camp hotseat, the Argentine is believed to have some admirers amongst Barcelona’s powerbrokers.
While he said he has no desire to talk about the position and that he is happy at Tottenham, Pochettino also stated that his understanding of football as a business means he isn’t in any way feeling flattered to be linked with the Barcelona job.
“Like always, I told you, (football) it’s the business I know very well. I was born with a ball in my arms and I understand very well the business. I don’t take it like a flattering or a prize,” he told a press conference.
“We are in one of the biggest clubs in Europe. For me Tottenham is one of the biggest clubs. We are in a position where you can see we play very good football, exciting team, very good players.”
Spurs were involved in the title race for a long time last season while they are currently Chelsea’s nearest pursuers this time around in the Premier League.
On that basis, Pochettino feels it is normal that both he and his players will be linked with moves away. He is, however, content in his current role.
“It’s normal we catch the attention of other clubs and football people. We are part of that business and our names always appear on the lists,” he added.
“I don’t want to speak because if you speak too much it is possible people can twist my words. I am happy here. I understand the business. It’s normal in football today.”
Tottenham are 1.67 to beat Everton on Sunday at home. The Toffees are 5.50 while the draw is 4.00.
