Nadal crushes Khachanov to reach China Open q-final

World number one Rafael Nadal cruised past Karen Khachanov 6-3 6-3 to advance to the China Open quarter-final in Beijing.

The Spaniard broke the 42nd ranked Russian in the fourth game and dominated the rest of the match to set up a last-eight meeting with American John Isner, who destroyed Leonardo Mayer 6-0 6-3.

“Happy about the match today,” said Nadal. “I think I played a solid match. Tomorrow will be a tough one against Isner; he’s playing unbelievably well. I saw his match today. He played huge. So let’s see what’s going on tomorrow.

Isner dominated and impressed in his dominating victory against Mayer as he served all eight aces and converted all four break points.

Nadal is a heavy favourite against Isner in Nextbet, since the 16-time Grand Slam winner won all six meetings against the 6-foot-11 American.

A win for Nadal in this QF is paid 1.30 in Nextbet, while an upset from the 32-year-old American is backed at 3.44.

Five of the pair’s last six meetings were close games, with all five matches seeing at least one set where one player need seven games to win.

But Nadal was in cruise control when he last met Isner, when the Spaniard defeated the American 6-4 6-4 at Rome Masters in a clay court.
