The NBA has announced that they have added four more referees to the roster, which includes two female referees. Cheryl Flores and Dannica Mosher, who were officiating basketball games at the G level, have been promoted to the top tier this season, taking the number of female referees in the league to eight, the most the NBA has ever had.

Matt Kallio and Robert Hussey are the other two additions to the NBA from the G level. Kallio became the first international individual to become a full-time referee in the NBA, further diversifying the group of referees.

One of the new additions, Cheryl Flores, comes with great experience at the G level and WNBA. She was at the G level for nine seasons and completed 10 seasons with the WNBA. She is also an accomplished women’s college referee, including two final fours in her career.

Dannica Mosher is a relatively newer and younger addition to the roster. She has spent four seasons at the G level and five seasons in WNBA. She officiated both the G Level and WNBA finals last season.

To this day, ten women have held full-time NBA referee-level jobs. For the upcoming season, there will be a total of eight female referees, with Flores and Mosher joining Lauren Holtkamp-Sterling, Simone Jelks, Ashley Moyer-Gleich, Natalie Sago, Jenna Schroeder, and Danielle Scott as women at the full-time NBA referee level.

When the pandemic disrupted the usual flow of things, a record 12 women were in charge of matches in the NBA, which includes some members from the current group of eight.

NBA’s senior vice president Monty McCutchen expressed his happiness after the promotion of these four officials and said that they had demonstrated the necessary professionalism and quality to be refereeing at the highest level. McCutchen oversees referee training and development programs in the NBA.

The 2022-23 season of the NBA kick-starts on October 18 and as it stands, all the teams are prepping for the new season with some rigorous training and pre-season fixtures. The season will culminate on April 9, 2023, and the NBA All-Star game will be played on February 19.
