Positive John Stones happy with performances

Centre-back John Stones says he is very happy at Manchester City and he believes he is making good progress despite what has been a topsy-turvy season so far.

City forked out a massive £47.5million on Stones last summer with the highly-rated defender putting pen-to-paper on a six-year deal after arriving from Everton.

Much was expected from the 22-year-old after his sharp rise at Goodison Park but there has been fierce criticism fired at the former Barnsley star.

The England international has been picked apart on several occasions due to some poor performances and he was once again in the firing line after Tuesday’s 5-3 Champions League victory over Monaco.

Radamel Falcao easily got past Stones when the pair were one-on-one before the Colombian executed a sensational chip to make it 3-2 to the French outfit at that time.

In the end, that incident didn’t have too much impact as the Citizens ran out winners although the three away goals could have a big impact on the return leg on March 15.

Monaco are 2.50 favourites to win the second leg, the draw is priced at 3.40 while the visitors are 2.70 as they aim to book their place in the quarter-final stage.

Stones is not letting criticism get to him this season and believes he, and the team, are making good progress and improvement as the campaign goes on.

“I feel like I am going in the right direction,” he was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News.

“I think people can over-complicate things and think about things too much. “I am enjoying my football massively.

I think how the gaffer explains things to us and how hard we work on things in training, we know what to do in games.”
