Sweden and Ukraine reach Euro 2016

Sweden and Ukraine have both secured their places at next summer’s European Championship in France after winning their play-off ties.

The Swedes were too strong for Denmark after securing a 2-2 draw in Copenhagen on Tuesday night which followed their 2-1 win in the first leg in Stockholm.

Sweden raced into a two-goal lead in the second leg thanks to a brace from Paris Saint-Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic before a late rally by the Danes in the final 10 minutes.

However, goals from Yussuf Poulsen (81 minutes) and Yannik Vestergaard in stoppage time proved to be in vain as Denmark crashed out 3-2 on aggregate.

The second leg between Ukraine and Slovenia in Maribor also ended in a draw after Bostjan Cesar’s header was cancelled out by Andriy Yarmolenko’s equaliser during injury time.

Slovenia also had defender Miso Brecko sent off for a foul on Yevhen Konoplyanka as they went out 3-1 on aggregate following a 2-0 defeat in the first leg in Lviv.

Teams will be drawn into six groups of four, with the top two in each section plus the four best third-placed sides advancing to the knockout phase.

Pot 2: Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Ukraine
