New mom Serena Williams is bent on making a comeback.
Just weeks after becoming a mother, Williams will aim to return to the tennis scene in a big way.
That was revealed by no less than her friend, Caroline Wozniacki.
Wozniacki, currently world No. 6, said Serena had been sending her pictures of the latter’s baby girl named Alexis Olympia Ohanian.
A delighted Wozniacki said the baby is “so cute and I’m looking forward to meeting her.’’
As to Serena’s return to the sport she has dominated for many years, Wozniacki said Williams can focus on both tennis and as a mother.
“I think she’s going to do a strong comeback but I think at the same time she’s enjoying being a mum as well and getting that whole experience. I think it’s very special,’’ added the 27-year-old netter from Denmark.
Last January, the 35-year-old Williams said she wants to return to competitive tennis in to defend her Australian Open title after giving birth to her daughter last September 1.
Her projected return was met with reactions by two former stars – Kim Clisjters of Belgium and Mary Joe Fernandez of the United States — who became parents themselves as to whether she would be able to be in top form so soon after giving birth.
Three-time US Open champion Clijsters, who quit the sport for two years and had a baby before returning to win the US Open in 2009, said Serena’s return depends on “how your body reacts — everybody reacts different in those situations.’’
Meanwhile, Fernandez, a runner-up at the 1990 and 1992 Australian Opens and 1993 French Open, said: “Serena is an exception to a lot of rules.’’
But majority of Serena’s fans could be as optimistic as their idol.
After all, a heart of a champion will always run in Williams’ blood.
