United sweating on Martial

Manchester United have suffered another injury scare after forward Anthony Martial picked up a foot problem against England.

The 19-year-old was replaced by(!–more–> Antoine Griezmann in the 67th minute at Wembley on Tuesday night after being forced off.

Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal will now be anxiously awaiting an update from Les Bleus’ medical staff ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash at Watford.

“He’s in quite a bit of pain after the match as a result of a play inside the area,” France manager Didier Deschamps said. “It’s a knock to the top of his foot.”

Martial has scored five goals for United since making a shock £36million move to Old Trafford from Monaco during the summer transfer window.

It has already been a costly international break for Van Gaal after he saw veteran midfielder Michael Carrick suffer an ankle problem against Spain last week.

Meanwhile, England captain Wayne Rooney was on target against the French with the second goal in a 2-0 win to extend his Three Lions goalscoring record to 51.

Rooney’s volley built on an opening strike by Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli and Van Gaal will be looking to him for goals if Martial is facing an extended spell on the sidelines.
